About the Firm

Our origins trace back to the 1890s, when Percy Burley set up a practice in Petersfield. Robert Geach joined after the First World War, and the firm grew through three generations of the Burley family before converting to an LLP in 2017. Today we have three offices in Petersfield, Haslemere and Liphook. Our work covers residential and commercial property, wills, trusts, tax planning, probate, family, farms and estates, and dispute resolution. Farms and estates is a genuine specialism, not a footnote: we have been acting for local landowners, farmers and rural businesses since the 1920s and still do. We hold CQS accreditation for residential conveyancing, Resolution membership for family work, and STEP membership for trusts and estate planning. Our Property Law team was nominated for Property Law Team of the Year at the Surrey Law Society Legal Awards 2025. We are not a volume firm. Fee earners carry their own caseloads, work is client-facing, and the pace is set by quality of service rather than billing targets. Support staff are embedded in their departments, not in a central pool, so the work is hands-on and the exposure to real matters is constant. We are actively recruiting across residential property right now. Career progression from support roles is real here: one colleague joined as a secretary, developed through paralegal work over two decades, and is now training to qualify as a Licensed Conveyancer. Outside of work, community involvement is extensive with sponsorship of sports clubs, support for local theatre productions and events and small regional awards initiatives.
